Consultation on the Whitestone Solar Farm has started

You  have until 28th October 2025 to object and make your views known.

Your help is needed if we are to stop this.

Whitestone Solar Farm is proposing to build the biggest solar farm ever seen in this country or Europe in South Yorkshire. It will consume 3500 acres of food producing agricultural land, compromise food security and create a massive carbon footprint itself with hundreds of thousands of solar panels imported from China produced using largely coal powered energy. The farm will cover land from Conisbrough in the north down to Woodhall and Harthill in the south.

The plan is to locate hundreds of thousands of panels on agricultural land surrounding Treeton. Also there has been no recognition given to the construction of the proposed new National Grid Electricity Sub Station on Long Lane which will take place at the same time and also impacting our village. Whitestone alone have stated that they will have over 630 construction vehicles, including over 200 HGVs doing 12 hour daily rounds at the peak of construction. Our village will drown in heavy traffic using totally unsuitable roads and local people may find it impossible to enter and leave the village to go about their daily lives. If approved this will last for 3 years or more and is sheer madness.

Please look at the consultation document at  whitestonesolarfarm.co.uk. This also gives details of public meetings you can attend to find out more. We have requested that Whitestone hold a meeting in Treeton and are awaiting a reply.

We want you to be aware that Rotherham Council is also currently considering applications for four other solar farms around Dinnington, Todwick, Aston and Wickersley/Morthern which will add significantly to the overbearing impact this will have on the environment. There may be more in the north and south and also in the pipeline here. This is solar spread going crazy and will destroy our countryside!

We need as many residents to object before the deadline of 28th October. The more individual objections that are made, the greater the impact on, Secretary of State, Ed Milliband’s sole decision to determine whether this goes ahead.

You can write your own letter of objection or The Parish Council has produced a letter of objection which you can download here and email to info@whitestonesolarfarm.co.uk . You can also pick up a copy of the letter and an envelope at Treeton Post Office, Treeton Miners Welfare Club or GP Surgery and send by free post to:
