Major Summer Bus Changes Confirmed for Treeton During Road Closure

22 May, 2026

Treeton Parish Councillor Bob Croxton attended the recent Transport Advisory Group meeting where several important transport issues affecting Treeton residents were raised with the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA).

Treeton Lane and Mill Lane Closure This Summer

Residents are reminded that Yorkshire Water will be undertaking major work at the bottom of Mill Lane Treeton, for up to 40 days from Monday 20th July 2026 to Friday 28th August 2026 to carry out drainage and sewage works. They plan to close Treeton Lane between Treeton and Catcliffe. The only way in and out of the village will be to use Long Lane and Wood Lane.

Concerns were raised regarding the impact on bus services and accessibility for residents during the closure period.

South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) confirmed that work has already taken place with Yorkshire Water and bus operators to minimise disruption and maintain public transport links for Treeton residents throughout the closure.

Key arrangements include:

  • A dedicated replacement shuttle service, Service 195, operating between Canklow and Treeton via Aughton Crossroads
  • The shuttle service departing from Rotherham at broadly the same times as existing 73 and 95 services
  • Service 95 diverting directly between Catcliffe and Waverley to avoid the closure
  • Services 71, 71A and 71S diverting via Brinsworth between Aughton Crossroads and Catcliffe
  • Continued use of accessible vehicles and revised timetables designed to maintain reliability

SYMCA also confirmed that passenger information will be issued ahead of the works so residents can plan journeys in advance.

Parish Council Presses for Residents’ Concerns to Be Heard

Councillor Croxton stressed the importance of local residents’ views being heard during the planning process and requested continued dialogue around issues such as:

  • Walking distances to temporary or diverted bus stops
  • Evening and late bus services
  • Accessibility for elderly and disabled passengers

SYMCA welcomed ongoing engagement with Treeton Parish Council on these matters.

No Planned Summer Cuts to the 95 Bus Service

Questions were also raised about whether First Bus would introduce reduced summer timetables on the 95 service, similar to those experienced in 2025.

SYMCA advised that no notification of any summer service reductions has been received from First Bus for Summer 2026 and, at present, the 95 service is expected to operate at its normal frequency throughout the summer period.

SYMCA stated they will continue to monitor the situation closely during the road closure period.

Concerns Raised Over Sheffield City Centre Bus Stops

Councillor Croxton also highlighted concerns regarding the condition and safety of the Sheffield Arundel Gate stop used by the 95 service, including:

  • Congestion caused by sharing the stop with the busy 52 route
  • Poor lighting and anti-social behaviour in the surrounding area
  • Non-functioning live bus information screens at both Arundel Gate and Moorfoot used by the 73 route to Treeton.

SYMCA confirmed these concerns will be referred to both their Infrastructure and Service Information teams, as well as Sheffield City Council, for further review.

Treeton Lane Bus Shelter to Be Cleaned

The condition of the bus shelter on Treeton Lane towards Catcliffe was also raised, particularly the need for cleaning and vegetation clearance around the shelter.

SYMCA advised this has now been passed to their Infrastructure Team and on-street cleaning teams for attention.

Treeton Parish Council will continue to monitor these issues and represent residents’ concerns regarding local transport services.
