Latest Update on Summer Bus Services, Diversions and Yorkshire Water Works
12 July, 2026

Over the last four months, Treeton Parish Council has sought information and continually raised issues and concerns, particularly about bus services affected by the Mill Lane road closure. The main organisations involved, Yorkshire Water and the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), have been slow to react, if at all, to the concerns raised by the Parish Council.
To date, there have been no face-to-face meetings and only one online meeting with SYMCA officers in mid-June regarding bus services. Much of that meeting focused on future plans for bus services when SYMCA takes control. The only confirmed outcome was that the 195 shuttle service will now extend to Catcliffe rather than terminating in Rotherham as originally planned.
Outstanding Concerns About Bus Services During the Road Closure
Several important issues remain unresolved. These include how less mobile residents living in the Mill Lane and Arundel Street area will access bus services via Station Road during the closure.
Treeton Parish Council has requested temporary bus stops near the junction of Front Street and Well Lane. This would reduce the distance passengers need to walk uphill, avoiding the need to travel to Wood Lane or High Hazel Road to catch a bus.
There is also uncertainty regarding the route of the 195 service from Rotherham. While the service is expected to travel along High Hazel Road, Bolehill, Well Lane and Front Street when travelling between Catcliffe and Rotherham, it remains unclear whether it will follow the same route in both directions or operate a different route similar to the current 95 service.
Pedestrian, Cycle and Mobility Scooter Access
Yorkshire Water has assured the Parish Council that one pavement past the road closure will remain open at all times for pedestrians, cyclists and mobility scooter users travelling to and from Catcliffe.
Bus Connections During the Mill Lane Closure
Residents wishing to walk to Catcliffe or connect with the 95 and 73 services can view revised timetables on the South Yorkshire Transport website.
Please note:
- A revised timetable for the 71 service has not yet been published.
- The currently available 195 shuttle bus timetable online is out of date.
- Most residents should already have received an updated 195 timetable through the post.
- A temporary bus stop has been installed on Rotherham Road near the junction of Orgreave Lane in Handsworth, allowing passengers to transfer from the 195 shuttle service to Sheffield-bound 95 and 73 services.
Travel Options to Sheffield from the 195 Shuttle Bus
Passengers using the 195 shuttle bus can connect to Sheffield services via the following routes:
- Change at Swallownest to catch the X5 service to Sheffield.
- Change on Retford Road at Woodhouse Mill, or just beyond Beaver Hill Road, to catch the 52 service to Sheffield.
- On the Rotherham-bound 195 service, passengers can alight on West Bawtry Road just beyond the Whiston traffic lights to connect with:
- X7 express service to Sheffield
- X11 express service to Sheffield
- 207 service to Sheffield via Brinsworth and Meadowhall
There is also the option of changing from the 195 service on Pleasley Road or Main Street to connect with services 20 and 21 to Rotherham via Rotherham Hospital.

Other Yorkshire Water Roadworks Affecting Local Travel
Swallownest Road Closure
From 07:00 on 27 July until 19:00 on 31 August 2026
Rotherham Road will be temporarily closed between its junction with Aughton Road and Park Street due to utility works.
Bus services 21, 21s, 71, 71a and 195 are expected to be affected by diversions. No diversion details have yet been released, although traffic is expected to continue via Aughton Road.
Brinsworth Road Closure
17th–19th July 2026
Bawtry Road will be closed between the bottom of Whitehill Lane and Canklow Roundabout.
At present there is no information regarding how the 95 and 73 bus services to and from Rotherham will operate during this closure.
National Grid Works on Long Lane
The temporary traffic lights between the M1 motorway and West Bawtry Road are expected to be removed before the Mill Lane road closure begins.
However, traffic lights between Ulley Brook and the M1 will remain in place until October.
Treeton Parish Council is disappointed that these traffic lights will remain throughout the Mill Lane closure period. The traffic management arrangements were approved by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council (RMBC) Highways Department.
Following enquiries, it appears that National Grid informed RMBC several months ago about its planned works. However, Yorkshire Water reportedly informed RMBC Highways about the Mill Lane works much later.
Residents can view notified roadworks across the Rotherham area via the One Network website:

Please note that, as of 11 July, Yorkshire Water works at Mill Lane, Brinsworth and Swallownest were not listed on the roadworks notification system.
Treeton Parish Council Continues to Raise Residents’ Concerns
Treeton Parish Council will continue to seek clarification on outstanding issues relating to bus services, accessibility for less mobile residents, road closures and traffic management associated with Yorkshire Water works in Treeton, Catcliffe, Brinsworth and surrounding areas.
