Fresh Bus Diversion Details Released for Treeton Lane Closure
2 June, 2026

Further details have now been released regarding bus services during the planned closure of Treeton Lane and Mill Lane this summer, following ongoing discussions between South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA), bus operators and local representatives.
The latest update has been shared by Rother Vale Ward Councillor Jamie Baggaley and provides greater clarity on how services will operate while Yorkshire Water carries out drainage and sewage works between Treeton and Catcliffe.
Revised 71 and 71A Bus Routes Confirmed
Following further discussions with TM Travel, it has been confirmed that services 71 and 71A will continue to serve Treeton throughout the closure period while continuing to operate through to Sheffield city centre.
Rather than diverting into Catcliffe, these services will operate via:
- Pleasley Road
- West Bawtry Road
- Bawtry Road
- Whitehill Lane
The services will then rejoin their normal route at New Brinsworth Road before looping back through Treeton.
Changes to Services 73 and 95
Services 73 and 95 will operate directly between Brinsworth and Waverley during the closure.
As a result:
- Journeys towards Rotherham from Catcliffe will operate up to 10 minutes earlier than current timetables
- Journeys from Rotherham Interchange to Catcliffe (The Plough Inn) will operate up to 10 minutes later than at present
Passengers are advised to check revised timetables before travelling once they are published.
Shuttle Service Details Confirmed
Additional information has also been provided regarding the dedicated shuttle service, which will operate as Service 995 between Treeton and Rotherham.
Key details include:
- A service every 30 minutes Monday to Friday from 5.43am
- Hourly evening services from 6.30pm until 12.14am
- An hourly service throughout weekends
To ensure the service remains available for Treeton residents affected by the closure:
- On journeys from Rotherham, passengers will not be able to alight until reaching the bus stop at Wood Lane/Treeton Lane
- On journeys from Treeton, passengers will not be able to board after the bus has left the stop in Treeton, Wood Lane/Treeton Lane.

Parish Council Continues to Champion Residents’ Views
Treeton Parish Councillor Bob Croxton is continuing to scrutinise the evolving transport arrangements and raise residents’ concerns as plans for the closure progress.
Key issues being highlighted include accessibility, service reliability, journey times, evening travel provision and the wider impact on residents who depend on public transport for work, education, healthcare and leisure.
The Parish Council is also continuing to press for a joint meeting with SYMCA, Yorkshire Water and Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to ensure local concerns are heard directly and that practical solutions are developed wherever possible.
Rother Vale Ward Councillor, Terry Adair, who also serves as a Parish Councillor in Treeton, also requested a meeting over a month ago with SYMCA and Yorkshire Water, to include both Treeton and Catcliffe Parish Councils. He confirmed earlier today that he had yet to receive a response.
As further details emerge, Treeton Parish Council will continue to challenge proposals where necessary and work constructively with all parties to secure the best possible outcome for residents during the closure period.
